Conspiracy and Control

You know, most of my life, I've been terribly keen on the notions of conspiracy and coordinated manipulation, from Masons to the Illuminati to the Bilderberg to CFR. It is easy to suspect that a cadre of evil powermongers somehow "wants" control over the rest of us. But then one must ask the question, "Why?" Control "us" to what end? So we'll give them our money? Hell, transnational corporations already "control" that. Oil, banking, insurance, health, military-industrials all have more money than God. So "they" are winning (or have won) that front.

And it's a masterful ploy, because it looks like business and so the Right naturally, historically defends it. Or is control so we'll behave? Again, bread & circuses and amusing ourselves to death seem to have that pretty well under "control". But that's really just another version of greed: watch this, and buy this. And why is this control so easy? Because the vast majority, whether they call themselves conservative, liberal, or Sneetches, have abrogated the responsibility to think in favor of sound-bites and talking heads and pundits.

But really, those motives at least have some causality: greed, money, profit. Do you seriously think "foreign religious law" (you can only mean Islam) has a snowball's chance in hell of overwhelming Christianity in this country? Do you seriously think any person or group has the power to pull that off? So what are we being controlled FOR? That's where the conspiracies generally grind to a halt: They need to produce a legitimate REASONs combined with coordinated mechanisms: real people who really meet and consciously plan the pathways to these goals.

What we almost certainly have are different viewpoints of what real, positively-oriented individuals hold w.r.t. how to solve our problems and deal with a world that contains 7 billion or so people, expiring energy reserves, a changing climate, famine, disease, etc. I do not believe there is a cadre whose sole aim is to extinguish all this; there are people who differ (widely, admittedly) on the proper way of fixing all this. And juxtaposed against them stand the ultra-greedy and rapacious, who have never wanted anything except to exploit all this. They've done their job magnificently, and managed to divide the good guys into warring camps who glare suspiciously across the barbed wire at each other. Too bad we can't turn and level our glares at them.
