Video: Do What You Gotta Do A country song, about cheating (it's a country song, okay). But with a definite plot twist. Back to Top |
In late July it can get so hot
In southern Tennessee That often times you'd rather not be
Where you gotta be You can sweat in a room with a ceiling fan,
You can sit a
drink a brew You can put off forever or as long as you can
Doing what you
gotta do.
Julie was a queen in a small town,
Sam thought he was a king He thought their love was the kind you find
When you listen
to angels sing
He never took her out they just stayed home Julie still looked fine and she thought it was wrong
Doing
what she had to do
The only thing wrong in this tableau
Was the thing that
always is 'Cause after awhile Julie got her a beau,
Then Sam got wind
of this It's hard to believe what a jealous heart
Can lead a man to
do There's no reprieve when you finally start
Doing what you
gotta do
Sam bought a gun 'cause he was mad as hell
He bought himself a bottle of wine
He drove his car to the cheap motel
Where Julie was having a time
He sat outside and he went insane
Sam thought "I am a fool.
I want her to feel this pain
I better do what I gotta do."
Now there's no escape from the way things are,
That's just a
natural fact If you walk in with hate in your heart
Don't plan on walking
back If your love is the kind where angels sing,
Well angels
never sing the blues How can a man destroy the thing
That makes him do what he
has to do? Sam just stared at the motel door,
He had never felt so
alone
Then he sorta forgot what he had come there for
He just drove himself back home.
In late July it can get so hot
In the state of Tennessee That often times you'd rather not
Be where you gotta be You can cry in a room with a ceiling fan
Or you can sit a
drink a brew You can put off forever or as long as you can
Doing what you
gotta do.

Video: Heraclitan Boogie Heraclitus was a pre-Socratic philosopher. One of his philosophical maxims? "Fool, keep thy hand from beans." Who can argue with that? |
A long while ago a wise man lived, Saying "Fool, keep thy hand from beans. Everything on earth is made outta fire And changes constantly". Now you can run and hide or you can try to catch up It all comes down the same track Take a look in the mirror, then you take a look again Someone different is looking back. You can't put the same foot in the same river That's what the man said to me You can't think the same thought in the same brain No matter how you try it so carefully. You can't sing the same song the same way No matter how hard you try You can't put the same foot in the same river Even when the river is dry. You can't count the fools who can't coin a phrase So decided that they outta stay quiet. You can't stem the tide of worlds when they collide And the people in the street wanna riot. I'd sure like to stand and take it like a man, But standing still is hard to do In fact you can't stand still when the fires are burning And the one who’s on fire is you. My best friend's brother said to his friend: "Better get while the gettin's good." But as for me I'm sitting this one out Because I've always been misunderstood.” While we were sitting and talking it over The ground she began to shake I looked at the river, it was flowing backwards And the levee was about to break. At the last hotel on the last highway There's a woman sitting on a stool She got snaky hair and all the men there Think she's beautiful but just too cool. No one will approach her, they just look in the mirror And pretend that they're made outta stone But when they try to dance & make with the romance They discover that they're all alone. The followers of wisdom want to dance and swing But they believe that they just can't move You and I know that it just ain't so They are always in a natural groove. They never can sit and be an observer When the universal rhythm gets hot Coming and going, something into nothing Things turning into what they are not. I find all of this hard to believe And I must take it with a grain of salt I been sometimes burned and I still ain't learned Though I've managed not to get caught. When the hounds of hell holler from the well And their fangs are merely inches away I can laugh out loud when I'm dead in my tracks Cause I remember what he used to say © 2011 Chuck Puckett |
Video: Laying Down the Law Some sort of blues song. Sort of. |
Does your mama know about me? She
won’t tell me a thing
Does your mama know about me? She
won’t tell me a thing She
might be looking for some reasons But she might just be insane I’m
not waiting on an answer
I’ve got places I should be I’m
not waiting on your answer
I’ve got places I should be
There’s no sense in taking chances When there ain’t nobody here but me
Laying down the law No,
that’s really nothing new
Breaking rules where we find ‘em
That’s the thing we need to do
Leaving nothing on the table That’s what this world’s comin’ to
Ain’t you got no expectations,
Something that you really need
Ain’t you got no expectations,
Something that you really need
When there’s nothing you would die for Then there’s no reason you should
bleed
Pardon me for standing idle I
can’t find nowhere to go
Pardon me for standing idle But
I can’t find nowhere to go
This whole thing has got me baffled I’d prefer I did not know
Little pieces of the puzzle
Make the puzzle hard to see
Little windows on the soul
Make things bigger than they can be A
little bit of giving in Would do a lot for you and me © 2012 Chuck Puckett |
Video: Maybe All You Need Another sort of country song. Watching women. An old pastime. |
A backbeat, baby, may be all you need
Standing on the corner looking mighty sharp
Waiting on tomorrow, 'cause today is gone
Shake it in the alley
You might be a stranger, I don't mind
Waiting on tomorrow, 'cause today is gone © 2011 Chuck Puckett |

#7 Raving
Video:
Raving He's raving. You're raving. I'm raving. We're ALL raving! |
Places and faces
that you have seen
Leave no traces
like a dream
You make up your
mind that you will find them someday
But tomorrow comes
like a mighty wave
And you're still
giving what you always gave
Don't ask for nothing, nothing is what you paid
Down on the
street, they're dancing to another beat
No one can deny
the fun that they're having
The awesome truth
is this: give the girls a little kiss
And give the man
the fist, 'cause he's only raving
Raving, raving, raving, raving

Video: The Life She’s Living Diana was the goddess of the hunt. Beautiful... and terrifying. |
Diana gets a hold of the moon,
Throws it just as far as she can The
girls try to follow along But
they just don't understand She
tried to be good But
she don't know how. She
would if she could But
the life that she's living
Always gonna bring her down On
the 21st day of June
Diana went to find romance She
was singing a mournful tune And
the girls all began to dance
They were dreaming of love Ah,
but they don’t have what it takes
Diana rises above But
the life she’s living
Don’t leave no room for mistakes
Diana's always on the prowl
Diana's always on the make The
girls all begin to howl
‘Cause they know what she’s gonna take She
can take them to dine She
will take them for fools She
would pour them some wine But
the life she’s living
Never went to finishing school
Diana was out in the storm
When lightning struck her in the face The
rain washed away the blood And
the wind held her in its embrace
It’s a dangerous game To
play the fool with Despair She
won’t take the blame And
the life she’s living Is
one that she cannot repair
Diana don't need no man
Diana don't need a thing
She’s more than any man can stand
They can’t stand to hear her sing She
can sing with the hounds
Diana pours a glass of wine
Diana is a goddess at night But
by day she can barely see The
moon is her favorite light
It’s the only thing that sets her free The
wolves are by the fire
Diana will survive
Like a funeral pyre
‘Cause the life she’s living Is a
life in four wheel drive
Threw it just as far as she could
Wasn’t a moment too soon The
girls were screaming for blood
They remembered the taste
Lord, they were crazy with grief
Diana joned in the chase And
the life she’s living
Will never give her relief In
December on the solstice day In
the year of the Chinese ox
Diana finally went away
Left her problems lying in a box
Tied the knot with her hair And
left for Timbuktu
It’s like she no longer cared
‘Cause the life she’s living
Ain’t gonna have no déjà vu

#9: You Listen Easy Video: You Listen Easy A weird imagining of Ulysses. Very weird. |
Penelope, please pass the pumpernickel
And pray for an end to this eternal rain
The King is calling me, I’m leaving here tomorrow
You may never ever see my face again
If you can't win the war by beating on your armor
Sometimes you have to try some subterfuge
Nobody believed this would be so easy
When you have to tell a lie it works better when it’s huge
Plan me a funeral hold it in the parlor
Ask all my friends if they really care
Tell them they can come and dance at my wedding
Everyone I know can wait for me there
The train no longer stops at this station
That engineer learned long, long ago
That no one cares about their destination
They'd really rather never have to know
It feels odd to see the moment of creation
You listen easy you can hear that big bang blow
Maybe I'm not listening for the laughter
Can’t be sure of everything they say
I think I know what everyone is after
But the odds are they will ever see that day
The innocent are pleading with the guilty
Asking them for help ‘cause they wanna climb down
From the pedestal they raised to get a better look
So they could find a way to get out of this town
The king of time is sitting on his stopwatch
Waiting for the brakeman to wave the Double E
He's got a bottle hid in his bandanna
It's mighty thirsty work to build eternity
The train no longer stops at this station
The engineer learned long, long ago
That no one cares about their destination
They'd really rather never have to know
It’s odd to see the tracks that lead to desolation
You listen easy you can hear that whistle to blow
I've got no use for prayers and supplications
They never meant a thing, Pepto-Bismol for the soul
They don’t give the sinner any explanation
They never understand until they fall in the hole
The pale witch throws her runes into the circle
Reads the future clear, denies what she sees
She stirs the pot and pours herself a tall one
She pours another glass, and offers it to me
A ship of fools is lying in the harbor
Her mast is broken down, the sails in shreds
With one eye on escape, and one on each other
The sailors man the pumps while the sky turns red
The train no longer stops at this station
That engineer learned long, long ago
That no one cares about their destination
They'd really rather never have to know
It’s odd to see the angels lost in meditation
You listen easy you can hear them down below
Tie me up in knots so I can make it through this
Penny's waited for me all the time I’ve been away
I heard her calling far across the ocean
In the morning I'll be sailing home to Souda Bay
The train no longer stops at this station
That engineer learned long, long ago
That no one cares about their destination
They'd really rather never have to know
It feels odd to see the moment of creation
You listen easy you can hear that big bang blow

#10: Got My Mojo Working Video: Got My Mojo Working A song about my mojo. Pretty much an excuse to play that down low funk.Back to Top |
Got my mojo working, and
I'm going out tonight
Got my mojo working, and
I'm going out tonight
When my mojo's working
Everything's gonna be all right
Got my mojo working
And I'm coming home to you
Got my mojo working
And I'm coming home to you
When my mojo's working
There ain't nothing we can't do Got
my mojo working (Got my mojo working) 4x
When my mojo's working
Everything's gonna be all right
We'll be going two by two
We'll be going one by one
We'll be going two by two
We'll be going one by one
When my mojo's working
We're gonna have a lot of fun
We'll be going one by one
We'll be going two by two
We'll be going one by one
We'll be going two by two
When my mojo's working
There ain't nothing we can't do Got
my mojo working (Got my mojo working) 4x
When my mojo's working
Everything's gonna be all right
Got my mojo working
And I'm coming home to you
Got my mojo working
And I'm coming home to you
When my mojo's working
There ain't nothing we can't do
